Active Transportation Design Project

Project Details

The Active Transportation Design Project will provide design solutions to improve cycling facilities and road safety in a cost-effective manner. The project will include traffic signal, streetlighting, street parking and roadway designs as well as a vehicular movement analysis.




The project includes engineering detailed design services for the following locations:

  • Watson Road – Tyson Road to Vedder Road – (Multi-use-pathway, added lighting and turning lane)
  • Main Street – Yale Road to Wellington Avenue (pedestrian and biking upgrades along with pavement restoration)
  • Portage Avenue – Williams Street to Woodbine Street (Sidewalk improvements)
  • Evans Road – Rail road crossing north of Stevenson Road (pedestrian crossing signal)

Completed Works

  • McIntosh Drive and Hocking Avenue  (multi-use pathway design with traffic signal and safety improvements) 
  • Knight Road at Southern Railway crossing - upgrade to flashing lights, bells and gates system and a new crosswalk connecting the Valley Rail Trail
  • Knight Road (Valley Rail Trail to Chilliwack River Road) - multi-use pathway with a grass boulevard and street trees.
