Active Transportation Design Project
Project Details
The Active Transportation Design Project provides design solutions to improve cycling facilities and road safety in a cost-effective manner. The project will include traffic signals, streetlighting, street parking and roadway designs as well as a vehicular movement analysis.
Future Projects
The project includes engineering detailed design services for future construction projects at the following locations:
- Watson Road – Tyson Road to Vedder Road (multi-use pathway, added lighting and turning lane)
- Main Street – Yale Road to Wellington Avenue (pedestrian and biking upgrades along with pavement restoration)
- Portage Avenue – Williams Street to Woodbine Street (sidewalk improvements)
- Edward Street to Mary Street (multi-use pathway with a grass boulevard and street trees)
Completed Projects
The following projects were part of the active transportation design project and are now complete:
- McIntosh Drive and Hocking Avenue (multi-use pathway design with traffic signal and safety improvements)
- Knight Road at Southern Railway crossing (upgrade to flashing lights, bells and gates system and a new crosswalk connecting the Valley Rail Trail)
- Knight Road – Valley Rail Trail to Chilliwack River Road (multi-use pathway with a grass boulevard and street trees)
- Evans Road – Rail road crossing north of Stevenson Road (pedestrian crossing signal)
