Luckakuck Way - Traffic Signal and Safety Improvements Project
Luckakuck Way from Vedder Road to the Southern Railway bridge (Valley Rail Trail) will see improvements this year.
Background Information
Concerns were received from the public and ICBC regarding unsafe driving behaviours entering and exiting driveway accesses along this corridor. After a traffic safety study was completed recommending improvements, detailed design and tendering were completed this spring and this project is now under construction.
Project Details
Improvements will include:
- Traffic control signal at the north access to the Superstore property complete with signalized crosswalks and audible pedestrian signals.
- Multi-use pathway (for cyclists and pedestrians) from the new traffic signal to the Valley Rail Trail on the east side of the roadway including pathway lighting.
- Replacing the two-way left turn lanes with designated left turn lanes including concrete medians along the corridor and restricting turning movements at various accesses. These changes will result in some restrictions to business accesses in order to improve the safety.
- Resurfacing of the asphalt roadway and new line markings from approximately east of Vedder Road to the Southern Railway overpass. Asphalt resurfacing to be completed in spring 2025 as weather and temperatures permit.
Timeline
Council awarded the contract for these works to Breakwater Contracting Ltd. Mobilization and construction is underway with estimated completion in December 2024.
