Reaching Home

In May 2020, the City of Chilliwack became a Designated Community under Canada's Reaching Home Program, which brings with it annual funding for local projects that reduce and prevent homelessness.

As a Designated Community, the City of Chilliwack is responsible for:

  • Developing and updating a Community Plan which identifies funding priorities for eligible activities under the directives of the program.
  • Establishing a Community Advisory Board, a local advisory committee that helps to set direction in addressing homelessness initiatives through sub-projects.
  • Managing and distributing funds to local organizations to prevent or reduce homelessness.
  • Developing and implementing Coordinated Access by 2025.
  • Ensuring all reporting requirements are complete as required by Canada.

2024-2025 Reaching Home Statistics

The Reaching Home Program provided funding for a total of four projects during the 2024-2025 fiscal year (April 1, 2024 - March 31, 2025). These initiatives focused on preventing and reducing homelessness, while also providing outreach to individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness. The table below highlights the number of individuals assisted through these projects.

In addition to the core Reaching Home funding, seven projects received support through the 2024-2025 Reaching Home Winter Funding Program. These projects successfully delivered a variety of essential services. The outcomes are summarized in the table below:
