Map showing Vedder Rotary Trail closures in red.

Multiple sections of the Vedder Rotary Trail will be closed from August 26 through October for provincial flood recovery work. This website will be updated to provide more details about the anticipated timing and duration of the trail and parking lot closures as the City receives project schedule information from the Province.

View the trail closure map here.

Chilliwack has a number of trails to choose from. Find a trail in your area on our website here.

Parking Lot Closures

The following parking lots will be closed during portions of the project:

  • Lickman Road
  • Hooge Road
  • Bergman Road
  • Giesbrecht Dyke
  • Keith Wilson Bridge and surrounding dykes

For your safety, residents and visitors to the area are asked to obey all posted signs and refrain from parking on private property. The Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve, No. 3 parking lot, Vedder Park and parking lot, Peach Park and parking lot, Browne Road parking lot, and some sections of the Vedder Rotary Trail will remain open for the duration of the project.

About the Project

This project is being carried out by the Province and aims to enhance flood protection along the Vedder River. The 2021 atmospheric river event caused 440,000 cubic metres of sediment to deposit in the Vedder River, which is 10 times the typical annual amount. Sediment removals will happen in August and September to help restore the river’s capacity to contain and convey floodwater. Once the project is complete, the trails will be restored to their pre-construction condition.

For information about this project, please visit the Province's website here or email the Province at [email protected].
