2007-12-17 Dyke breach modelling study

The City of Chilliwack carried out an extensive amount of flood protection works in 2007, largely funded by the provincial and federal governments.  The City has recently received additional provincial government funding for two projects, which will be completed by the end of March 2008.

In addition to flood mitigation works, the City has a comprehensive emergency preparedness program in place.  To assist with emergency preparedness, the City of Chilliwack had a dyke breach modelling study prepared by the consulting firm Water Management Consultants.  The modelling study simulates three different dyke breach scenarios and provides information on estimated flow paths, water depths and timing.  Results of this modelling work can be viewed on this website.  These dyke breach scenarios were created assuming flow conditions on the Fraser River equivalent to the 1948 flood event.
