“Mr. Bryant is a most deserving recipient. For more than sixty years he has lived here and worked to make Chilliwack a better place for all of us. He will set the standard for future recipients to follow. We are presenting him with this award because we want to honour him and thank him,” said Mayor Hames.

Mr. Bryant has been involved in numerous organizations and causes. His activities include youth outreach, church ministries, involvement in the agricultural community, civic service, and community clubs, committees and organizations.

He has received several service awards including the recent Distinguished Service Award from the BC Association of Agricultural Fairs and Exhibitions in October of 2000.

He is widely recognized as the author of several agriculture-related books and served seven consecutive terms as a Chilliwack City Councillor.

The initiation of the Order of Chilliwack award coincides with the International Year of Volunteers, declared by the United Nations and endorsed by Volunteer Canada. “The City of Chilliwack has always celebrated and recognized volunteers,” said Mayor Hames. “Volunteerism is the heart and soul of a community and we are very fortunate in Chilliwack to have so many dedicated individuals making a difference every day. The Order of Chilliwack is one of the small ways we can thank citizens for their tremendous efforts.”
