The Seniors Connect Café occurs every first and third Thursday of each month at the IHOP Restaurant in Chilliwack and every second and fourth Thursday at the Homer Restaurant. Drop in between 10:00am and 12:00pm on these dates for a free cup of coffee or tea and for a conversation. There is a facilitator present at each event. There is also a resource person present to answer any questions you may have about community and health care resources. All older adults are welcome! No membership needed and no cost attached!

Start early with Babytime. Help your baby develop speech and language skills — enjoy bouncing, singing and rhyming with stories. Babytime is a fun, social bonding activity for babies AND caregivers.

Members of the public are invited to join Mayor and Council for a celebration of Chilliwack’s newest park, Lexw Qwò:m Park, on Saturday, May 4 at 11 am. Located in the Eastern Hillsides area on Hack Brown Road, Lexw Qwò:m Park features a day use picnic area, parking lot and a trail network that connects to the Community Forest. The event will begin with speeches, followed by a hike of the lower loop (approximately a 15-20 minute walk) and light refreshments. Parking is available at Charis Camp.

On Sunday, May 5, 2019 people across Canada will walk in support of the Hike for Hospice. Here in Chilliwack, members of our community will gather at Townsend Park to build awareness and raise funds in support of the Chilliwack Hospice Society. Hike for Hospice Chilliwack is a public family event. Runners, walkers and wanderers of all abilities are welcome to participate! All funds raised will remain locally to support the Chilliwack Hospice Society so that we may continue our critical work of providing compassionate care to individuals and families during the dying and grieving process. The Chilliwack Symphony Orchestra & Chorus showcase an array of joyous J.S. Bach favourites. The CSO brass choir sets the exhilarating tone at the outset of the concert with the stunning Passacaglia and Fugue in C minor. Excerpts from the Bach Cantata BWV 66 (also known as the Easter Cantata) and the Bach Mass in B minor will be presented by the chorus and orchestra, along with The Chilliwack Children’s & Youth Choir, and Belle Voci, who are also featured in this uplifting performance. CSO flautist, Bernard Blary, known for his beautiful sound and technique, will play the 3rd movement of the C.P.E. Bach Concerto in D minor for flute and orchestra. The IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s is the Alzheimer Society of B.C.'s flagship fundraiser and is a way British Columbians can celebrate and remember people in their lives who have been affected by dementia, while they raise valuable funds and awareness to create change. Each year we honour a member of the local community who has been affected by dementia or who has valuably contributed to the lives of people living with the disease in Chilliwack. This year we honour Wendy Eyre-Gray, a member of the community who has been affected by dementia. “Especially with dementia, people don’t want us to be suffering and they don’t want to hear about it,” Wendy says. “Listen to yourself at every level: mind, heart, soul and body. Honour that and speak to that.” Get your family, friends and colleagues together and join us for an amazing day at the 2019 IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s.

10:30 am - 11:30 am This is a rare chance for children to witness one of the true wonders of nature: the transformation of caterpillar to butterfly. Join other butterfly lovers as we welcome our new baby butterflies (caterpillars) to the library. Learn about the life cycle of a butterfly, make a butterfly craft and enjoy a butterfly storytime. The larvae will live at the library and you can return as often as you like to see the differences in growth from one day to the next. You may even witness the moment a caterpillar becomes a chrysalis!

Big Bike is a 30 person tandem team building bike; where teams of 18-29 fundraise to a goal to support the Heart & Stroke Foundation and then come out to ride together to show our Chilliwack community they are supporting!

The Fung Loy Kok Taoist Tai Chi Club will do a short demonstration as well as talk about the benefits of Tai Chi such as helping to reduce and relieve stress, anxiety and pain. Anne Marie Evers is an Affirmation Life Coach, Teacher, Radio/Internet Talk Show Host. She has numerous e-books and books in print including Wake Up and Live the Life You Love in Spirit with co-authors Dr. Deepak Chopra, Dr. Wayne Dyer and others. Anne Marie facilitates Affirmation programs and will be presenting on the benefits of affirmations.

The 9th annual Impact 7-Aside Soccer Tournament will be on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at Tzeachten Sports Field at 46770 Bailey Road in Chilliwack BC. There are 3 divisions; competitive, fun, and corporate, with a maximum of 12 teams in each division. The teams will compete until one team in each division becomes victorious. Each team must be made up of both male and female players. All proceeds support Sardis Doorway for Mothers and Children.

3 pm – 3:45 pm CMHA Mental Health week is May 6-12 and Daisy from Namaste Hiking Co. will be here to lead a workshop geared towards youth. This will include a gentle yoga practice, an introduction to meditation, and mindfulness techniques to bring into their daily lives. No experience necessary, please bring a yoga mat or blanket. Chilliwack Opportunity Society a community inclusion day program for adults with disabilities will be hosting our annual Mother's Day Market. Admission is free, so come shop from 30 local vendors. With so much to choose from you are bound to find that special something for mom or treat yourself.

Monday, May 13 – Thursday May 16, 11 am – 6 pm Friday, May 17, 10 am – 3 pm Use the force to break out of our Star Wars themed Escape Room! Our green screen will be set up to capture your time so dress up and rock your best Jedi Knight look. Sign up for your 45 minute time slot in teams of 4 to 6 by phone or in person at the Sardis Library beginning Monday, April 29. Prizes will be awarded to the four teams with the lowest times. Participants must arrive 15 minutes prior to start time for instructions. While this event is geared towards ages 13+, it is suitable for anyone over the age of 7. The Chilliwack Museum & Archives will be unveiling its latest exhibition Five Faces, Five Corners: The Social Experience of Chilliwack’s Downtown at an Opening Reception on May 16, 2019 at 7:00pm. Heritage Christian Online School's Lighthouse Theatre soars to new heights with Peter Pan, Broadway’s Timeless Musical. This May, come follow the adventures of Peter Pan and his mischievous fairy sidekick, Tinker Bell, as they visit the nursery of the Darling children late one evening, to retrieve Peter’s missing shadow. After Wendy helps him re-attach it, she in return is invited along with Michael and John to Neverland. With a sprinkle of pixie dust and a heap of imagination, they begin a magical journey where they encounter the Lost Boys, Tiger Lily, and the villainous Captain Hook. Traveling to the second star to the right and straight on 'til morning will prove to be an experience none of them will ever forget! Aereography® and the theatrical flying effects are provided by Flying By Foy. Amendments have been appropriately made to the original Peter Pan script to both honour and respect our Indigenous Community. Lighthouse Theatre, a dynamic group of Heritage Christian Online School students ranging from Grades 2-12, is committed to a high standard of excellence from the acting, singing, and choreography to the costumes and impressive set design. We are celebrating our 10th Annual Ride to Live for Prostate Cancer. Our event starts at Mountainview Harley Davidson in Chilliwack and Trev Deeley Harley in Vancouver. This is a Poker run and all participants will end up at the University of the Fraser Valley in Abbotsford for a bbq lunch, prizes and entertainment. all funds raised goes toward Prostate Cancer in British Columbia.

Bring on the meat sweats!!! BC EggFest is a BBQ Food Festival held in CHILLIWACK, BC on May 26, 2019. BC EggFest is a fun-filled day that provides attendees with unlimited BBQ food sampling, live music featuring local entertainment, & axe throwing by Axewood! The 3rd annual BC EggFest is a gathering of Big Green Egg BBQ fans, experienced cooks, & BBQ competition teams from around the province. The 15+ cook teams will be showcasing their grilling skills and talents, while preparing and demonstrating their specialty recipes all day long for the "Tasters" to enjoy! Breakfast fare, pizza, beef, pork, chicken, duck, & dessert will be served throughout the day - this year we are proud to add a vegetarian cook team to the mix! Whether you have a Big Green Egg or not, anyone with an appetite and a love for GREAT BBQ is invited to come out and "Taste" what our Cook Teams have in store for you! If the butterflies decide to hatch slower than expected or if it is raining, we will schedule the release for the week after, also during Storytime.
