2023 Environmental Stewardship Award
The Environmental Stewardship Award is presented to an exceptional Chilliwack business that exemplifies leadership and commitment to sustainable business practices and initiatives, demonstrated by: Sustained reduction or improved efficiency in waste outputs, energy usage, or environmental impact of their operations; Projects, programs, processes, systems, technologies or employee engagement to reduce the environmental footprint of your business.
This year’s winner of the Environmental Stewardship Award is Platinum Electric.
Platinum Electric has been servicing the Fraser Valley area for over 30 years. They strive to provide products and services that save energy and create renewable energy. In their recent work, they joined forces with other contractors at Dicklands Farms for a biogas project that uses anaerobic digestion to produce renewable natural gas using the manure from the farm’s dairy cows and other organic waste. Platinum Electric is passionate about continuing to develop similar biogas plants locally and advocating for all renewable energy solutions. They plan to focus on promoting solar and EV products in 2024.
In addition, Platinum Electric has sustainable operating practices, such as:
- Installing energy-efficient lighting systems with LED lights throughout their building and sensor timers in the office area.
- Programming their HVAC system to minimize energy consumption during non-business hours.
- Optimizing waste reduction, reuse, and recycling programs to minimize the amount of waste going to the landfill.
- Promoting sustainable transportation by biking to work or allowing staff to go directly to job sites at the start of the day if the sites are close to their homes.
Lastly, Platinum Electric also helps clean up the community around their facility and along Olds Drive, and they will be joining the City’s Adopt-A-Road program in the new year.
