Fire Prevention Week

The City of Chilliwack Fire Department is teaming up with the National Fire Protection Association® (NFPA®) — the official sponsor of Fire Prevention Week for over 100 years —to promote this year’s Fire Prevention Week campaign, “Cooking safety starts with YOU.  Pay attention to fire prevention.™”

The campaign works to educate everyone about simple but important actions they can take to keep themselves and those around them safe from home fires.

Did you know? Cooking fires are the leading cause of home fires and home fire injuries. Unattended cooking is the leading cause of cooking fires and deaths.

What can you do? The good news is you can prevent most cooking fires and burns. Help keep your family safer with some simple but effective tips.

Today’s homes burn faster than ever. You may have as little as two minutes (or even less time) to safely escape a home fire from the time the smoke alarm sounds. Your ability to get out of a home during a fire depends on early warning from smoke alarms and advance planning.

Chilliwack Fire Department encourages all residents to embrace the 2023 Fire Prevention Week theme.

What if someone in my home is deaf or hard of hearing?

There are smoke alarms and alert devices that alert people who are deaf or hard of hearing. These devices include strobe lights that flash to alert people when the smoke alarm sounds. Pillow or bed shakers designed to work with your smoke alarm also can be purchased and installed.
