2026 Culvert Projects
Each year, the City replaces deteriorating drainage infrastructure prioritized by condition, risk, benefit, and cost. This year, a new culvert will be installed on Jesperson Road, and the culvert will be extended on Chadsey Road.
Jesperson Road Culvert Replacement
This project was completed in September! The new culvert has been installed and the road has been paved.
Project Details
The project began in August and was completed in September.
The three aging culverts under Jesperson Road were replaced with a large concrete box culvert. The new 15m long culvert is over 4m wide and 1.8m high, which improves fish passage and flow capacity along Camp Slough improving both drainage and water quality of this watercourse. The road was repaved where excavation occurred, and roadside barriers were installed with a 1m wide shoulder to improve vehicle safety when crossing over Camp Slough.
Chadsey Road Culvert Replacement and Intersection Widening
The project is now complete! Work began in August and was completed in September.

Project Details
The intersection of Chadsey Road and Keith Wilson Road was widened to better accommodate turning movements of large trucks and farm equipment, while improving safety for all road users. The concrete box culvert underneath the intersection was extended by 5 metres to accommodate the widening. New asphalt, line paintings, and steel rail barrier were installed to finish the intersection improvement.
What is a Culvert?
A culvert is a tunnel-like structure that is constructed to allow roads, railroads, and trails to cross over flowing watercourses. Water flows through the culvert beneath the road crossing in its natural path. The culvert should maintain the ability to support drainage and habitat once installed.
Culvert replacements and upgrades are needed to avoid failures that could cause costly repairs and interruptions to traffic. Culvert failures can cause damage to the surrounding riparian environment.
2025 Completed Projects
Payne Road Culvert Replacement
An 8m long 1200mm diamater culvert was replaced with a 17m long 2100mm diameter culvert crossing Elkview Creek. It was identified as a high priority project due to the failing condition of the culvert, safety risk to road users and the only access to eight properties on Payne Road. Fish friendly gravel was laid down in the new culvert. The road was widened to make it safer for all vehicles to turn.
Gibson Road Overpass Culvert Replacement
A new culvert was installed at the Gibson Road overpass. The previous 1.5 metre steel culvert was originally installed in the early 1980s and had partially failed causing upstream flooding.
