Construction Notice - Temporary One-Way Traffic

Location: Prest Road between McGuire Road and Bailey Road

Date and Time: Tuesday, November 3 - Friday, December 18 - 24 hours a day

Traffic Management: The northbound lane will be closed. Traffic will be detoured via Bailey Road, Lindell Road, Banford Road, McGuire Road and Prest Road. The southbound lane will remain open. Expect delays and congestion, plan alternate routes if possible, and obey traffic control.

Project Details: This temporary traffic change is intended to speed up construction, improve safety around deep excavations, and reduce the overall duration of the traffic disruption. It is expected to advance asphalt base paving for the project, including the roundabout, with a target of mid-December completion before winter conditions worsen.

Date and Time: Tuesday, November 3 - Friday, December 18 - 24 hours a day

Traffic Management:  Local traffic only.

Timeline

Fall 2025: Archeological field investigation completed.
Winter 2025/2026: Hydro and Telus utility pole relocations completed.
Spring 2026: Archeological permitting received and construction tender awarded to Ballina Contracting.
Summer 2026: Road construction began with completion prior to May 2027.

Complete Works

Works completed include:

• Instream works for storm drainage
• Storm sewer and road drainage works
• Subgrade preparations and road structure placement for widening the east side of Prest Road and the east side of the roundabout at McGuire
• Concrete curb and gutter for the east side of the McGuire roundabout

Project Details

The third and final phase of the Prest Road widening project from McGuire Road to Bailey Road began in 2025 with completion in 2026. This phase includes the construction of a roundabout at Prest Road and McGuire Road and road widening between McGuire Road and Bailey Road.

To minimize disruptions, the City completed the culvert replacement at Interception Ditch on Prest Road during the 2024 fish window.
