City-Wide Free Swap Event

This year’s City-Wide Free Swap Event will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Evergreen Hall, located at 9291 Corbould Street.

Give what you don’t need. Take what you can use. Keep it out of the landfill.

The City of Chilliwack is hosting its second annual City-Wide Free Swap Event — a fun, community-driven way to give new life to gently used items, reduce waste, and help your neighbours find something useful in return.

This free event encourages residents to rethink waste by keeping usable items in circulation and out of the landfill.

What to Expect When You Arrive

Step 1: Check in with our staff at the Check-In Stations. We will take your donated items and provide you with your swap tickets.

Step 2: Browse the swap tables and select the items you want to take home. If you run out of tickets, simply ask a staff member for more!

Step 3: Once you’ve chosen your items, head to the Check-Out Station. If you have any extra tickets, please return them to the staff so they can be reused.

Donation Guidelines

We’re excited to welcome donations from the community! To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone, please review the following guidelines before bringing your items:

Item Condition

  • All donated items must be clean, gently used, and free of stains.
  • Our team will inspect every item upon arrival.
  • Items that are dirty, broken, unsafe, or pose any risk will be politely declined.

Donation Limits

To keep the event manageable and fair for all participants:

  • Clothing donations: Each household may bring two standard grocery bag-sized (15 inches by 15 inches - see image below) donations of clothes plus 1–2 additional items.
  • No clothing donations: If you are not donating clothes, you may bring up to five (5) other items.
  • Swap tickets: For every accepted item you donate, you’ll receive a ticket that can be exchanged for another item. This helps us track how many items we divert from the landfill. If you run out of tickets and wish to take more items, please speak with a staff member.

Frequently Asked Questions

1.     What is the Free Swap Event?

The City-Wide Free Swap Event is a community event where residents can bring gently used items and take home something new — all for free! It’s a great way to reuse, reduce waste, and keep usable goods out of the landfill.

2.     Who can participate?

All City of Chilliwack residents are welcome to attend. There’s no cost to participate, and everyone is encouraged to join — even if you don’t have items to donate.

3.     Do I have to bring something to take something?

No. Everyone is welcome to participate, even if you don’t bring any items to swap. The goal of the event is to keep usable items out of the landfill and help them find new homes. We do encourage residents to bring gently used items if they can, but it’s not required.

4.     Will there be items available at the start of the event?

Yes. There will be a starter inventory of donated items available when doors open at 11:00 am.

Donations brought in during the event will be sorted and added continuously, so new items will appear throughout the day.

5.     How do the swap tickets work?

For each accepted item you donate, you’ll receive a ticket that can be exchanged for another item.

If you run out of tickets and would like to take more items, please speak with a staff member.

6.     What happens to the leftover items?

All remaining items will be donated to local thrift stores and charitable organizations in Chilliwack to ensure they continue to be reused and benefit the community.
