How to Participate - Public Hearings

What is a Public Hearing?

A Public Hearing is a meeting of City Council where members of the public may tell Council how they believe they are affected by proposed changes to zoning bylaws or the City's Official Community Plan

Public Hearings are held in Council Chambers at City Hall (8550 Young Road) and start at 4:00 pm. Find upcoming Council meeting dates in the Council Meeting Calendar here

Important Information: Changes to Public Hearings

As part of the Province’s changes to the Local Government Act (Bill 44 – 2023 Housing Statues Residential Development), the City is no longer allowed to hold public hearings for certain types of residential development rezoning applications. For more information on the Province’s legislative changes, visit the Province's website here. For more information from the City, read this press release

What does this mean?

The City will no longer be permitted to hold a Public Hearing for a rezoning that meets certain criteria, as outlined on the Province's website here. We will continue to provide public notice for these rezoning applications, including signage on the affected property, advertisements in the local newspaper and on our website, and mailed notices to neighbours within 30 metres of the subject property. We also encourage applicants to consult with the neighbourhood about future development projects.

How you can provide input on a rezoning application that no longer requires a Public Hearing:

Whether you are a resident within 30 metres of the subject property, or see the proposal another way, you are welcome to submit your feedback via mail to the Legislative Services Department at 8550 Young Road, Chilliwack BC, V2P 8A4, or by email to [email protected]
