FALL 2017/WINTER 2018 CHILLIWACK LEISURE GUIDE 41
Your professional
Orchestra in the
Valley
Chilliwack Children’s Choir
CSO Starlets
Belle Voci
Our season begins on October 14,
2017 – Roy and Rosemary will join the
Chilliwack Symphony Orchestra: APianist
and Violinist who bring Hollywood’s
beloved cinematic instrumental songs to
your concert stage. Your favorites from
yesterday and today. The Bogart and
Bacall of Hollywood’s soundtrack
virtuosos.
Roy & Rosemary are equally comfortable
with classical and pop music and their
diverse talents and improvisational skills
have led to numerous performance
opportunities, including three
different performances at New York’s
Carnegie Hall, one of which debuted
a combined hip-hop and classical
concert; a performance as the first ever
instrumentalist at St. Peter’s Basilica at
the Vatican; entertaining at numerous
private events, including for Donald Trump
at his Mar-A-Lago estate in Palm Beach;
performing at the Egyptian Consulate
in Washington DC, performing at two
concerts at the Vancouver 2010 Winter
Olympics; as well as the Beijing Summer
Olympics, and even opening Hockey
Night in Canada.
A very unique part of their show is doing
requests from the audience, often even
learning and arranging unfamiliar tunes
instantly, inviting the audience in to be
a part of the show and a key ingredient
in the creative process. Their talents do
not end there however. They will keep
you wanting more when you hear either
or sometimes both of them taking up a
microphone and serenading you with their
voices.
The Chilliwack Children’s Choir will be
singing Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah with
Roy and Rosemary and the Chilliwack
Symphony Orchestra
December 8, 2017
– Messiah in the
Valley: First Avenue Christian Assembly,
Chilliwack: One of the special challenges
in performing Messiah year after year
is to keep the work sounding fresh, as if
one had just discovered it. It is a joy for
many listeners to hear a more detailed,
articulate style and quicker tempos based
on Baroque dance rhythms and speech
patterns
Today, such an interpretation is much
more common among both period and
modern orchestras, and it is no longer
surprising. Instead, a listener can focus
on the drama of the work and how a
particular performance presents it. We
personally have found it satisfying to
return to the work each year not so much
to perform different versions of it or to
consciously try to do something “different,”
but rather to discover more details and
greater depth in the music. For us, that is
what makes it perpetually “new.” Awork
such as Messiah is inexhaustible.
