27 City of Chilliwack 2017 Annual Report Crime Prevention Services Another key area of support comes from the staff and over 140 volunteers who operate out of the downtown Wellington Community Policing and Operational Support Office (CPOS) which offers the following programs: y Victim Services y Block Watch y City Watch y Speed Watch y Crime Free Multi-Housing Program The CPOS sub-station is operated by the Chilliwack Crime Prevention Society, a separate non-profit organization, which receives operational funding from the City of Chilliwack. The Society would not be able to function adequately without the dedication of its many volunteers. All of its employees and volunteers are committed to making Chilliwack a safe place to live and work. The RCMP is very proud of the dedication and hard work these individuals devote towards the safety of the community. First Nations Policing Community partnerships have continued to be maintained and strengthened to help address crime issues in First Nations communities. The UFVRD RCMP First Nations Police Unit was selected to conduct a pilot project for the Aboriginal Shield program. This program is similar to the DARE program, including First Nations content and involvement. Police Visibility, Non-Vehicle Patrols and Seasonal Policing The key police visibility and community relations initiatives were: y Non-vehicle patrols (foot/bike/boat/ATV) to allow for greater interaction with the public while promoting public safety y Seasonal policing enforcement and education y Road safety and traffic enforcement y Auxiliary Constable recruitment and training The RCMP welcomed almost 500 people to their 2nd annual RCMP Open House Local RCMP officer Const. Annelisse Lovell represented the Fraser Valley leg of the Cops for Cancer Tour de Valley Highlights Fallen Officer Memorial On November 8, 2017, the RCMP unveiled the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment Fallen Officer Memorial. The memorial, dedicated to recognizing and honouring Upper Fraser Valley RCMP officers killed in the line of duty, will remain a permanent presentation in front of the RCMP Community Policing Office on Airport Road.
