15 City of Chilliwack 2017 Annual Report Highlights Construction of the new Curling and Community Centre broke ground in the spring of 2017. Upon completion, the Centre will house eight sheets of ice, expanded food services and community meeting space. Two public art pieces were introduced to the community in 2017. A mural was painted on the exterior of the building at Five Corners and the Canada 150 Mosaic was unveiled at the Canada Day celebration. Community Sport Hero Recognition night once again honoured five recipients who selflessly volunteered their time to better community sport. Over 8,000 people attended the Canada Day celebration 31 block parties hosted throughout the community through the Neighbourhood Grant Program
