The Chilliwack Community Arts Council and The Toronto International Film Festival Circuit are pleased to co-present the Spring 2014 Chilliwack International Film Series featuring six critically acclaimed films: April 2 – Philomena UK/ English/ 96 min/ 14A/ Drama. The powerful true story of an unmarried Irish-Catholic woman who, decades after being forced by her community to give up her newborn son, embarks on a search to find him with the aid of a BBC reporter. Director: Stephen Frears. Stars: Steve Coogan and Judi Dench. April 9 – The Lunchbox India, France, Germany/ Hindi-subtitled, English/ 104 min/ PG/ Comedy, Drama. In Mumbai, a misdelivered lunchbox brings together two very different people - a neglected housewife and a grumpy, solitary widower on the verge of retirement - in this funny and touching comedy. Director: Ritesh Batra. Stars: Irrfan Khan, Nimrat Kaur and Nawazuddin Siddique. April 16 – The Invisible Woman UK/ English/ 111 min/ 14A/ Drama. Ralph Fiennes directs/ stars as Charles Dickens in this opulent period drama about the great novelist’s passionate, years-long secret affair with the young actress Nelly Ternan. Director: Ralph Fiennes. Stars: Ralph Fiennes, Felicity Jones, Kristin Scott Thomas and Tom Hollander. April 23 – Like Father, Like Son Japan/ Japanese-subtitled/ 120 min/ PG/ Drama. In this poignant drama, two families —one rich, one poor —discover that their sons were switched at birth. Director: Hirokazu Kore-Eda. Stars: Masaharu Fukuyama, Machiko Ono, Yoko Maki, and Lily Franky. April 30 – Cas & Dylan Canada/ English/ 90 min/ 14A/ Comedy, Drama. A doctor’s plan to drive out west takes a reluctant detour when he inadvertently winds up on the lam with an “anything-but-normal” 22-year-old girl. Director: Jason Priestley. Stars: Richard Dreyfuss and Tatiana Maslany. May 7 – Le WeekEnd UK/ English/ 93 min/ 14A/ Comedy, Drama. Revisiting Paris for the first time since their honeymoon, a long-married British couple run into an old colleague and discover a new vision of what life and marriage might be. Director: Roger Michell. Stars: Jim Broadbent, Lindsay Duncan and Jeff Goldblum. All movies start @ 7:00 PM and take place at Cottonwood 4 Cinemas.
