The artists of “Fragments: Explorations in Mixed-Media Collage”, Christine Newsome, Betty Meiszner, Vicki Ray and Dianne Hultgren are dedicated to exploring the possibilities in mixed-media as an art form. Mixed-media collage lends itself to pushing the boundaries and each artist represented here has a very unique approach. The results are rich, diverse and exciting.

Registration at the Library is ongoing. Are you a struggling reader in grade 1-4? Need a little extra encouragement and help with reading? Get matched up with a Big Buddy in our Reading Buddies Program at one of the Chilliwack Libraries for some extra help once a week! French Immersion students are also welcome! Reading Buddies is a program that pairs high school students and adult volunteers with kids in Grades 1 to 4 who need extra help. Sign up begins in September, and we will continue matching buddies until Spring 2018. Big Buddies must be aged 15 + and/or registered in Grades 10 to 12.

Registration for the walk will begin at 12pm and the walk will commence at 1pm. Parkinson SuperWalk is the single most important provincial and national awareness and fundraising event for Parkinson Society British Columbia (PSBC). Over 20 communities across the province organize walks during the weekend of September 9th – 10th, and 16th while raising money for research and support services through individual pledges and corporate sponsorships. This year, our goal is to attract over 2,400 walkers and raise at least $460,000 in BC. Proceeds from SuperWalk will enable the Society to invest in research and continue to provide essential programs and services to the 13,300 individuals and their families who live with Parkinson’s in BC.

The late summer harvest is upon us and it is time to celebrate! On Sunday September 17th join Earthwise Agassiz at 6031 Golf Road to celebrate the harvest and learn more about the plans for this site. Doors will be open from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm. Guests are invited to explore the wonderful features of the property, take a self guided tour of the site and enjoy a stroll along the newly initiated streamside and woodland trail. Freshly harvested organic produce from the Earthwise Farm will be available for sale along with local artisanal items. Chef Derek Bothwell, of Vancouver's Bottleneck Restaurant, be on location to serve delicious lunch offerings featuring produce fresh from the farm. Representatives from the Earthwise Society and other local organizations will be there to share information about the projects under way or planned for the property. Earthwise Society acquired the Agassiz Demonstration Farm and Garden in 2015 and since then they have been working together with community partners, organizations, and volunteers. This year, the Society initiated the first phases of an ecological demonstration garden featuring heritage, pollinator and native plants, enhanced riparian habitat along the Miami River, began to create a streamside and woodland trail, and expanded their organic farm production, including an apiary. Chilliwack Breast Feeding Challenge Saturday September 30th 9:30am—11:30am. 46361 Yale Rd. E., Chilliwack BC. Every year, on the 40th Saturday of the year at 11am, mothers and children unite at different sites around the world to compete in the annual Queintessence Breatfeeding Challenge to set a record for the most children breastfeeding at one time. The Challenge strives to increase public awareness of the normality of breastfeeding, the benefits to mother, child and community and the ways in which women need support to achieve the recommended duration for breastfeeding. In 2016 Chilliwack had 156 babies breastfed simultaneously placing us first in North America! This is an amazing achievement and we are so proud that our community is so supportive about the health and wellness of our children. 2017 will be the 17th annual Chilliwack Breastfeeding Challenge!
