City Crews Respond to Flooding and Fallen Trees February 9, 2017

The freezing rain continues to cause challenges in Chilliwack, with downed trees, power lines and flooding being the most pressing issues. The weather forecast is calling for rain showers to continue into tonight and tomorrow, which will increase the risk of flooding.

The City’s Operations Department currently have all crews working on downed trees and flooding. Additional staff from City Hall and contracted backhoes are helping with calls for service.

Power outages have been reported throughout Chilliwack and BC Hydro crews are responding as quickly as possible.

To report a downed tree or flooding, please call Operations at 604.793.2810. BC Hydro warns that if you come across a downed or damaged power line, assume it is live and a danger. Stay back at least 10 metres (the length of a bus) and dial 911 to report.

City crews are currently dealing with more than 30 trees that have fallen onto roadways. Roads that are currently closed due to fallen trees, downed power lines or flooding include:

  • Coote Street and Maple Avenue
  • Henderson Avenue (between Stanley Street at Corbould Street)
  • Menzies Street (between Yale Road and Portage Avenue)
  • Walnut Avenue (by Wilson Road)
  • Hazel Avenue (between First Avenue and Maple Avenue)
  • Prairie Central at Chilliwack River
  • Prairie Central at Prest Road
