The City of Chilliwack is developing a new Cultural Centre in the heart of downtown Chilliwack. This state-of-the-art cultural facility will include an art gallery, a 500+ seat performance theatre, a 150 seat recital hall/rehearsal space/dance studio/meeting space, music instruction rooms, arts and crafts studios and related amenities. It will be located on City-owned land at The Landing, adjacent to existing sports and recreation facilities and Prospera Centre. On November 30, 2009 the Province of BC and the Federal Government announced $2.5 million dollars in funding from the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund for the installation of a sanitary sewer system in the Tyson-Stevenson area. This grant funding provides up to 2/3 the cost of the sewer installation with the remaining amount split between the City of Chilliwack and the area residents. The project has a completion requirement by March 2011 in order to meet the funding requirements.
